Volunteer Lead: Project Appreciation - RCSJ Serves - Cumberland Campus

Help lead a meaningful RCSJ Serves project honoring the everyday heroes who protect, serve, and care for our communities.

We are seeking enthusiastic Volunteer Leads to help guide volunteers participating in Project Appreciation, a Volunteer Center of South Jersey initiative. Volunteers will decorate and assemble appreciation packages filled with treats and handwritten messages of gratitude for local police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other first responders.

As a Volunteer Lead, you will help create a welcoming, organized, and meaningful experience for participants while ensuring the project station runs smoothly. VCSJ will provide all project materials, instructions, volunteer lists, forms, and training, you bring your enthusiasm, leadership, and commitment to service!

Volunteer Lead Responsibilities

Volunteer Leads will::

  • Arrive approximately 30 minutes before the project begins for setup and orientation.

  • Help set up the Project Appreciation station and organize supplies.

  • Welcome volunteers and briefly explain the project and its connection to RCSJ Serves and the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.

  • Check in pre-registered volunteers using the provided volunteer registration list.

  • Assist walk-up volunteers with the required sign-in and waiver process.

  • Explain how to decorate and assemble appreciation packages.

  • Help volunteers create positive and appropriate messages of gratitude.

  • Make sure each completed package contains the designated items.

  • Keep supplies organized and replenish the work area as needed.

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and welcoming volunteer environment.

  • Keep completed packages organized and track the number completed.

Who We're Looking For

No previous volunteer leadership experience is required. This role is ideal for someone who is:

Friendly and comfortable welcoming others

Organized and dependable Comfortable giving simple instructions to individuals or small groups

Able to work as part of a team Enthusiastic about volunteering and community service

Physical Requirements

Volunteers should be comfortable standing or sitting for portions of the shift, organizing project materials, and performing light setup and cleanup.

Training & Support 

You will not be doing this alone! The Volunteer Center of South Jersey team will provide Volunteer Leads with all of the information to successful lead this project. VCSJ staff will also be onsite throughout RCSJ Serves event days and available if you need assistance.

In the days following September 11, 2001, our nation witnessed extraordinary acts of courage, compassion, and selfless service. Project Appreciation carries that spirit forward by recognizing the first responders and community heroes who continue to serve others every day. As a Volunteer Lead, you are helping create more than appreciation packages, you are helping other volunteers understand the power of gratitude, service, and community.
