About RCSJ Serves for 9/11 Day & the Nonprofit Exhibition
In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, RCSJ Serves will bring together students, faculty, staff, departments, clubs, community organizations, and nonprofit partners for a unified Week of Service across the Gloucester and Cumberland campuses of Rowan College of South Jersey.
This initiative is designed not only to commemorate the events of September 11, 2001, but to reflect and replicate the spirit of unity, compassion, resilience, and service that emerged in the days that followed.
The Nonprofit Exhibition (September 8–10, 2026) gives local nonprofits a platform to showcase their mission, connect with campus community members, and share/host volunteer opportunities during this multi-day event.
Role Overview
We are looking for Volunteer Leads for 2.5-hour shifts at each location to help facilitate a seamless, welcoming experience for participating organizations and attendees. Volunteer Leads serve as ambassadors for the event by supporting with setup, greeting guests, engaging nonprofit representatives, and assisting with breakdown.
Key Responsibilities
Nonprofit Hospitality & Guidance: Greet arriving nonprofit representatives, guide them to their assigned tables, and assist them with any needs or questions throughout the event.
Attendee Greeting: Welcome the campus community, explain the mission and layout of the exhibition, and encourage interaction with the organizations.
Event Operations: Assist with organization set-up before the event begins and breakdown of the room at the conclusion of the day in preparation for the next day.
Shift Options (2.5 Hours Per Shift)
Morning Shift (Shift 1, 9:30am - 12pm)
Primary Focus: Setup, nonprofit check-in, and attendee engagement
Duties:
Serve as the primary contact for organization representatives as they arrive - assist with directing them around campus.
Organization check-in and help guide them to their station.
Assist organizations with set-up, if needed.
Greet attendees, introduce the exhibition, and direct them through the venue.
Check in on nonprofit tables to offer assistance.
Afternoon Shift (Shift 2, 12:00pm - 2:30pm)
Primary Focus: Afternoon session support, vendor assistance, and event breakdown.
Duties:
Greet attendees, introduce the exhibition, and direct them through the venue.
Provide ongoing support to nonprofit representatives such as answering any questions they may have.
Assist nonprofit partners with packing up their materials at the conclusion of the exhibition, as needed.
Help with breakdown and restore the room layout for the next day.
Must:
Attend volunteer orientation on Tuesday, September 1 - your choice of 10am - 11am or 6pm 7pm.
Be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Have a positive attitude and outgoing personality.
Have access to a personal cell phone for communication with the VCSJ team.
Be able to lift and carry up to 20–25 lbs (helpful during set-up, breakdown, and assisting nonprofits with boxes/materials).
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor as you’re representing the Volunteer Center of South Jersey and Rowan College of South Jersey.
