The Volunteer Center of South Jersey, a Program of Jersey Cares, Inc., is seeking a highly
energetic Public Relations Manager Intern to oversee the recruitment, retention, and
recognition of our nonprofit partners. The successful candidate will have a commitment to
volunteerism and a desire to improve the lives of others. This community leader must have a
self-starting, get-it-done attitude, and a proven ability to organize complex processes.
Duties include:
• Assist in the creation of a strategy to raise VCSJ/Jersey Cares’ profile in New Jersey.
• Work with staff to create a strategy to build collaborative relationships among local
and state governments.
• Aid in the development of special events to spread awareness about VCSJ/Jersey
Cares in the South Jersey Region.
• Work with Account Relations Manager, to stay current on the services offered by
VCSJ/Jersey Cares.
• Use the current customer relations management system (Little Green Light) to
automate processes that increase and sustain our service statewide.
• Assist with upcoming events, including event planning and promotion, logistics
management, reporting and evaluation. This includes, but is not limited to:
o Annual Awards Ceremony - Spirit of Community
o Annual Fundraiser - Taste of Community
o Service Project Events – National Days of Service, Family Volunteer Days
• Maintain the VCSJ message and brand. Under the direction of the Executive
Director, manage and market all publicity efforts, such as: writing press releases,
correspondence with agency stakeholders.
• Work with creative team to prepare marketing materials (i.e., event program books,
flyers, posters, event signage, sponsorship signage, event landing pages, email
newsletters and media press releases).
• Maintain a good working relationship with event vendors.
• Work with VCSJ Communications Teams (social media, website, newsletter, etc.) to
provide frequent updates.
• Prepare event follow up reports.
• Online web application support (training is provided).
Skills needed:
• Outgoing, creative, takes initiative, team player, excellent communicator, detail oriented,
dependable, diplomatic, ability to multitask, professional demeanor, positive attitude,
familiarity with nonprofit organizations, and a passion for increasing volunteerism.
• Strong project management skills managing multifaceted projects resulting in measurable
successes and program growth.
• Proficient in using technology as management, evaluation, and reporting tools.
• An upbeat and enthusiastic personality
• Experience using Microsoft Office (this is a MUST)
• Excellent customer service skills and patience when dealing with others.
• Ability to work independently.
• Willingness to contribute ideas and work in a team environment.
• Good writing and email communication skills.
Requirements:
• Must be a New Jersey resident.
• Must be between the ages of 16-24
• Able to provide 120 hours of service over the course of 12 weeks.
• Able to create and deliver a presentation detailing the internship experience for
Demonstration Day.
Additional Information:
• If academic credit is needed, please confirm with your school’s internship coordinator
to determine if this position satisfies criteria for receiving academic credit BEFORE
accepting an offer to hire.
• Reports directly to the Program Manager.
• 15 hours per week, in-office between Monday to Thursday in the hours between 10am4pm.
• Onboarding/Orientation will begin on or about May 10, 2023, with internship start date
soon thereafter.
• Participants who satisfy all the position’s requirements will receive a stipend of $250 at
the end of the 12 weeks.
