Friends who wish to attend the daily workshops at Appel Farm's Mother's Day Weekend Art Retreat for free can donate a four-hour shift time towards helping with the weekend. You can assist by helping to prep and set up spaces. Additional assistance in helping guests move their luggage into their housing spaces.

If the volunteer is working two shifts and joining us overnight for the entire weekend, a background check is required through PreSearch. Appel Farm will pay for the background check. Please apply to volunteer by Sunday, May 3rd so the background check can be completed before you arrive.

Assisting coordinator with food truck and craft vendor check-in and check-out. Must be able to walk various distances. This position requires ability to be on your feet and be able to direct vendors to their booth site. Good walking shoes and layered clothing advised. Will be around cars so need to be observant of surroundings and protecting foot traffic as well. One position will be located at the main entry tent controlling entrance of the vendors. Check-In Shift 7:00am-10:00am. Check-Out Shift 2:30pm - 5:00pm.

Join us in setting up/breaking down 10’ x 10’ popup tents, helping to move tables and chairs, and setting out garbage/recycling cans. This position requires ability to be on your feet and lift about 20-30 pounds. Good walking shoes and layered clothing advised. 8:00am-11:00am set up/3pm-5pm breakdown. Mid-day positions (11am-3pm) help to check trashcans and assist with other set up/special projects as needed.

These positions will assist the stage manager by unloading/reloading musical instruments and speakers from golf carts or trucks. Stage crew need to be flexible, kind, caring and listen to directions to ensure that equipment is handled correctly to prevent damage. Wear layers and good working boots to protect feet.

Welcoming guests, handing out promotional materials, encouraging friends to sign up for the door prize drawing and directing volunteers to locations. Assisting with the set up of the welcome tent at the start of the day and the breakdown of the welcome tent at the end of the day. Excellent position for someone who loves interacting with the public. One should be able to stand or sit at a moment’s notice. Wear good walking shoes and layers. Multiple shifts available.

This position is great for a person who is willing to serve beer and wine to our customers. It is great for someone who has tended bar in the past and is familiar with TIPS/TAMS certification. For those who would like to continue to assist Appel Farm with this position at future events, Appel Farm will pay for your online ABC certification from the state. The volunteer will also monitor the audience to ensure that all are only drinking in designated area. Must be 21 or older. Having a TIPS/TAMS certification or NJ Alcohol Server Certification required. Morning and Afternoon shifts available. Appel Farm will pay for the NJ Alcohol Server Certification with commitment of serving at two Appel Farm events.

This position is great for a person who is a friendly, enjoys socializing with people, great communicator but also able to control traffic flow in a tactful manner. This position must explain to the audience who can enter the beer/wine garden area and ensure that all friends who are able to drink have a wristband and are not drinking outside the garden. Morning and Afternoon shifts available.

This position will assist the Marketing Director in taking photographs to document the weekend retreat and the concert on Saturday. Photos become the property of Appel Farm and will be used for promotions of future events. Volunteer shifts include 30 minutes of uploading photos to google drive at the end of the shift. Great for college or high school students looking to expand resume skills. Specific positions include stage photography, audience photography and activity photography. Training by Marketing Director will be needed at the start of the day. Please send a few samples of photos you have taken in the past to kbaer@appelfarm.org. (Need Smart Phone w/Camera)*
